Globalstar sat phone disruptions

Don't count on your Globalstar Sat phone in an emergency! Globalstar Sat phones are getting very poor reception due to a problem with the satellite constellation.
The company is in the process of setting up to replace satellites in the Fall 09. In the meantime, you should not be counting on sat phones as part of your emergency communications plan. If you're planning to use a Globalstar sat phone in the near future they have setup a service called OSAT which can give the best times to make a call from a given location. The idea is that before you go on a trip you would login to your account and plug in the Lat/Long coordinates of the various locations you may want to make a call from. The system will give the times and days when you can get reception.

Globalstar's other satelitte based product the SPOT is not affected by this disruption. Iridium phones are not affected by this disruption.
